“There’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing” -Sir Ranulph Fiennes

We couldn’t agree more! Don’t let a spot of weather prevent you from getting out and exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Dales which are just as spectacular in the rain.

However, if you are a fair weather walker then never fear, there are plenty of thing to do in the local area while you are staying in your luxury holiday home. Here a few of my favourites;

  • A Trip to Ripon! Between the Workhouse, Police & Prison and the Courthouse museums you will learn some of the unique history of this historic city. A trip to the stunning cathedral at the end of the cobbled street is a must and you are simply spoiled for choice of which tea house to visit for refreshments afterwards. Olivers Pantry, Realitea and Chimes are probably my top three recommendations!
  • A ride out to Pateley Bridge. Visit the mini museum, amble up and down the high street for a little retail therapy and don’t forget to bring your award winning pies back from Weatherheads Butchers! The Oldest Sweet Shop will satisfy your sugar cravings and you are guaranteed to be able to pick up a quarter of your favourite sweets!
  • Harrogate! Harrogate has it all. If you don’t want to drive into town simply get on the number 36 bus at Ripley and relax as you are delivered into the heart of this Elegant Spa Town. If culture is your thing then the Mercer Gallery is a must. Take a look in at the Turkish Spa Baths and check out the free tours of the grand Royal Hall. There is no better place for a spot of retail therapy. With small, quirky independent shops, designer boutiques and well known high street stores all within easy reach of each other you’ll be spoiled for choice. Of course, there are dozens of places to stop for lunch or afternoon tea, but Betty’s is a must! You can even bring a ‘Fat Rascal’ back with you!!
  • Tours of Ripley Castle are daily at this time of year. You can enjoy six of the Castle rooms which include the Library, Drawing rooms, Tower room and Knights Chamber. Follow this up with a pot of Yorkshire tea and a platter of Yorkshire specialties at the Castle Tea Rooms and have a browse around the Castle shop and Just Makers in the Courtyard.

Of course you could always hunker down in your holiday home with a good book, magazine or jigsaw from the Library and wait for the rain to stop! Whatever the weather, rest, relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility that Warren Forest has to offer.
