Named after the biggest county in England, it’s no surprise that Yorkshire Day is a thing. Held on the 1st of August each year, we are delighted that Ripon will be the official hosts this year!

If you don’t know Yorkshire very well you may think that Yorkshire folk will be celebrating by donning a flat cap, walking the damp countryside with a whippet, eating a Yorkshire pudding with gravy, then settling down to complain about the rising price of a pint of best bitter, ending the night on a cheerier note by remembering the good old days. Well we’ve got news for you….

The festivities will begin at 10 am with 200 Mayors and other Yorkshire Dignitaries taking part in a parade from The Ripon Spa Hotel, around the Market Square to Ripon Cathedral. This will be followed by a commemorative service held in the Cathedral followed by lunch in a marquee in the grounds. Then between 10 am and 4 pm there will be a Ripon Showcase in the Market Square where you will be able to find out about tourist attractions, local produce and products!

This will be followed by live music in the Cathedral grounds where you are invited to bring a picnic or buy from the BBQ and bar. To end the day there will of course be a famous Hornblowing Ceremony. More music will follow and will reach a climax at 10pm with a fabulous fireworks display at the Town Hall. It should be quite a spectacle!!

I’ve added some pictures below that give a small flavour of why I love Yorkshire!!!
